Veterinary Surgery

A surgical procedure

We take surgery very seriously and schedule a minimal number of surgical appointments each day so that we can provide our patients with the appropriate amount of time and attention.

Our Procedures

We perform most soft tissue procedures. If your pet requires a procedure that we don’t currently perform, we will refer you to an appropriate specialty hospital.

Some of our common surgical procedures include:

  • Spay and neuter
  • Tumor removal
  • Tissue biopsies
  • Enucleation (eye removal)
  • Dentistry

Required for Surgery

We require the following for all of our surgical procedures.

  1. An updated exam with Parker’s Paws Animal Hospital.
  2. Pre-surgical work-up: We do a baseline EKG and pre-anesthesia bloodwork before every surgery. Your pet’s age will determine the extent of your pet’s blood panel.
  3. Surgical Procedure: The morning of your pet’s surgery we do a full physical exam, which includes checking all of the vital signs and listening to the heart and lungs. We will administer three pain medications: one before, one during, and one after your pet’s procedure.

Safety Protocols

We have extensive protocols in place to protect your pet during anesthesia.

Our surgical protocols include the following:

  • IV catheterization
  • We pre-oxygenate, and we follow all AAHA® guidelines.
  • We use sevoflurane gas because it helps pets fall asleep smoother and wake up smoother.
  • A technician monitors the patient's BP, EKG, PCO2 and PO2 throughout the entire procedure.
  • We follow up with every client following any procedure to ensure that the pet has experienced a satisfactory or expected outcome.

Please call us if you have any questions regarding our surgical capabilities.
